TESTED: THE POLESTAR 2 - SWEEDISH INVASION CONTINUES

The Swedes are quietly responsible for some of the best things in life: Volvo, Meatballs, IKEA, ABBA, and yes, Swedish Fish. Now, you can officially add the Polestar 2 to that illustrious list. It’s like someone in Sweden decided that electric cars needed a dash of minimalist style, a heap of tech, and just enough horsepower to keep your knuckles white. So, if you’ve ever wondered what happens when Swedish practicality meets rocket ship acceleration, well, here it is.

 


The 2024 Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor Performance Pack is not just a green machine—it’s a proper speed demon. With 350kW of power and a gut-punching 740Nm of torque, this electric beauty rockets from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 4.2 seconds. That’s right, a family-friendly EV with the heart of a supercar. But it’s not just about how fast it moves—it’s about how gracefully it stops. Those iconic gold Brembo calipers aren’t just for show; they deliver stopping power that feels like yanking a parachute. Every press on the pedal inspires confidence, ensuring you don’t just hurtle into the horizon, but return safely from the edge of it.

 


The Polestar 2 is all about balance. The all-wheel-drive system, combined with Öhlins adjustable dampers, keeps the car planted and composed, even when you’re pushing it through twisty roads. There’s a sense of precision in how the Polestar 2 handles—effortless, yet poised. However, a small drawback of this performance-tuned suspension is that the ride can be a bit stiff, particularly at low speeds. On rough city streets or speed bumps, you’ll feel every ripple under those 20-inch wheels. But once you hit the open road, the setup shines, smoothing out bumps like a champ.

 


Of course, no review would be complete without mentioning the brakes again—because, frankly, they’re that good. The Brembo brakes require a firm press to really engage, but once they do, they offer stellar performance. Paired with the regenerative braking, you can stop as quickly as you accelerate. The only minor niggle here is the lack of paddle shifters for regen control; instead, everything has to be adjusted through the touchscreen, which can feel a bit distracting at times.

 



On the inside, the Polestar 2 offers that signature Scandinavian minimalism—clean lines, eco-friendly materials, and a focus on function over frivolity. You’ll find vegan leather, recycled fabrics, and a dashboard that’s more like an art installation than a control center. The tech is top-notch, with an 11.2-inch infotainment screen powered by Google’s Android Automotive system. Everything from Google Maps to Spotify is seamlessly integrated, and the controls are easy to navigate—though the almost complete reliance on the touchscreen might take some getting used to for those who still appreciate a few physical buttons.

 



Range-wise, the Polestar 2 doesn’t disappoint. With a WLTP-rated range of 591 km, it offers more than enough juice for most daily commutes and weekend getaways. But if you’re the type to really lean into that accelerator, expect to see those numbers drop—closer to 500 km in real-world conditions, and even less if you're on the highway. Fast charging helps make this less of a concern, though, as you can juice up to 80% in just under 30 minutes at a 205kW DC fast charger.



Despite a few minor niggles—such as a ride that can be stiff at low speeds, and limited rear-seat space—the Polestar 2 remains a standout in its class. It’s fun to drive, incredibly stylish, and packed with enough tech to make any gadget lover swoon. The performance is thrilling, and the brakes are nothing short of exceptional. This isn’t just an electric car—it’s an electric car done the Swedish way. With precision, sustainability, and a whole lot of style.



For those who want an EV that doesn’t feel like an appliance, the Polestar 2 is a perfect choice. Sure, it’s not the cushiest ride on the market, but with Brembo brakes, Öhlins suspension, and the backing of Volvo’s heritage, it’s hard to argue against this new Swedish icon.
