Tested: Genesis GV60 - just buy one already

Luxury electric SUVs are a dime a dozen these days. From the ubiquitous Tesla Model X to the achingly chic Audi e-tron, the market is saturated with contenders vying for your eco-conscious dollar. But what if I told you there was a new player in town, one that blends scintillating performance with a knockout interior and a price tag that won't make your eyeballs water? Buckle up, petrolheads (well, almost), because the 2024 Genesis GV60 is here to rewrite the electric rulebook.

Let's address the elephant in the (quiet) room first: the GV60 is electric. Now, I know some of you out there equate electric vehicles with the excitement of watching paint dry. But fear not, because the GV60 packs a punch that would leave a V8 whimpering. Depending on the trim level, you're looking at either a 314-horsepower rear-wheel-drive setup or a stonking 483-horsepower all-wheel-drive option. The latter rockets from 0-60 mph in a scant 4.5 seconds, thanks to its dual electric motors. That kind of shove will pin you to your plush leather seats faster than you can say "boost mode," a temporary surge of power that adds an extra dose of exhilaration to your daily commute.

But the GV60 isn't all about neck-snapping acceleration. Genesis has struck a delightful balance between sportiness and comfort. The steering is light and precise, offering a reassuring sense of control even on twisty backroads. The suspension soaks up bumps with aplomb, making for a serene ride that would put some luxury sedans to shame. This is an electric SUV that feels composed and confident, happy to carve corners or chillax on the highway.

Of course, a Genesis wouldn't be a Genesis without an interior that's the automotive equivalent of a five-star spa. Stepping inside the GV60 is like entering a world of exquisite materials and thoughtful design. Soft, quilted Nappa leather adorns the seats, while microsuede accents and metallic trim finishes elevate the cabin to new heights of sophistication. The centerpiece is a dual-screen infotainment system that's as intuitive as it is visually pleasing. Thankfully, Genesis hasn't succumbed to the trend of ditching all physical buttons – climate controls remain refreshingly tactile. Even the gear selector gets a quirky upgrade, transforming from a crystal orb into a joystick as the car awakens. It's these little touches that make the GV60 feel truly special.

Let's not forget practicality. While the GV60 isn't the most cavernous SUV on the market, it offers enough space for passengers and cargo for most everyday needs. The rear seats are heated and recline generously, ensuring comfort for even the lankiest teenagers. The cargo area, while not vast, is well-shaped and benefits from a handy frunk (front trunk) for additional storage.

Now, the question you're all probably wondering about: range. The GV60 boasts a maximum range of 470 Km on a single charge, which is plenty for most daily commutes and weekend errands. Additionally, the car supports up to 350 kW fast charging, which means you can juice up the battery from 10% to 80% in a little over 18 minutes – perfect for those longer road trips.

So, is the 2024 Genesis GV60 the perfect electric SUV? Well, nothing is perfect. But it comes darn close. It offers blistering performance, a luxurious and comfortable interior, impressive range, and all at a price point that undercuts some of its German rivals. If you're looking for an electric SUV that blends sophistication with genuine driving thrills, the GV60 deserves a serious look. It might just be the Korean coup you've been waiting for.
