MOTHER'S DAY WITH E'CCO BISTRO

This Mother's Day, I wanted to create a truly special experience for Mum, a day that transcended a simple meal and focused solely on her. Ecco Bistro, a Brisbane haven known for its understated elegance and Euro-inspired cuisine, immediately came to mind.  And it proved to be the perfect choice.

As we entered the restaurant, a symphony of gentle murmurs and laughter washed over us. Sunlight streamed through expansive windows, illuminating a space where marble, timber, and concrete coalesced into a sophisticated yet inviting atmosphere. Ushered to a fabulous bar seat, we received a menu that mirrored the restaurant's understated charm – a promise of culinary delights to come.

The shared entree platter was a delightful overture to the forthcoming feast. The warm sourdough baguette, a textural masterpiece with a crusty exterior and a yielding interior, begged to be dipped in the accompanying black ash salt. Pillowy soft potato gnocchi luxuriated in a rich mushroom ragu, the earthy notes punctuated by the fragrant kiss of truffle oil and the delightful crunch of parmesan crisps. However, the star of the entree act was undoubtedly the local king prawn cocktail sliders. Freshness burst forth in every bite of these succulent prawns nestled in pillowy buns, their zesty cocktail sauce adding a touch of playful vibrancy.

For the main course, we embarked on a culinary adventure together. Mum opted for the roast lamb shoulder, a classic elevated to new heights, which arrived bathed in a luscious jus. The meat, falling effortlessly off the bone, revealed a depth of flavour that spoke volumes of slow-roasting expertise.

I, on the other hand, was captivated by the za'atar baked salmon. The subtle earthiness of the za'atar spice blend, with its whispers of thyme and oregano, beautifully complemented the salmon, while the creamy tahini yogurt and bursts of ruby red pomegranate added refreshing counterpoints. The accompanying tabbouleh salad, a vibrant tapestry of parsley, mint, and bulgur wheat, provided the perfect textural contrast.

No Mother's Day celebration would be complete without a sweet finale. Ecco's dessert platter presented a trio of temptations – a symphony on a plate just for us two. Lemon meringue tarts offered a delightful balance of tart and sweet, the meringue light and airy as a cloud. We shared bites of the macarons, a visual feast of pastel colours, and little bursts of sugary joy together. The tiramisu cups, a classic Italian indulgence, provided a rich, creamy, and subtly coffee-infused conclusion, a perfect ending to a perfect meal.

The service at Ecco Bistro was the invisible thread that seamlessly weaved the entire experience together. Our waitress possessed an impressive knowledge of the menu while ensuring our water glasses remained full and our questions answered. The unpretentious and friendly professionalism of all the staff further elevated the overall dining experience.

Ecco's Mother's Day menu wasn't just a collection of dishes; it was a celebration in every bite. From the warm ambience to the expertly crafted food and the impeccable service, it was a dining experience that surpassed expectations.  This wasn't just a meal; it was a day dedicated to Mum, filled with delicious memories meticulously curated by Ecco Bistro.
