KIM K... MARC JACOBS... WE'RE DYING!

The original Kardashian sister is the new face of Marc Jacobs - and she’s kicking off her reign with the designer label’s Fall ‘23 release.

The campaign launched on August 9th, and (by the hard and fast laws of social media) it was teased beforehand on the official Marc Jacobs Instagram. Clearing all previous posts, the page posted Kim Kardashian looking right at the camera lens in a super zoomed in, grainy VHS shot of her face. Mysterious.

The ready-to-wear collection from Marc Jacobs shows off the brand’s urban chic style, with jackets, pumps and shoulder bags available to order.

The photos are, in a word, decadent. They’re dark and almost grungy, but the silver bubble letter balloons give the shots a party vibe too. It looks like Kim is going corporate in black and white ensembles, but the brand plays with the proportions of each fashion item to give the collection a playful feel.

Kim exudes power and elegance here, posing in front of the biggest inflatable Kiki boots I’ve ever seen. One thing we love about Marc Jacobs is its ability to flirt with camp fashion, but still retain a smart and sophisticated look. The press release announced ‘oversized silhouettes and polka dot prints’ which bring a runway vibe to everyday wear. Those are some big shoes to fill, but Ms Kardashian has it covered.

This latest endeavor from Kim comes in hot off her $4 billion Skims valuation. The entrepreneur’s shapewear brand is synonymous with all things elegant and understated - maybe why Marc Jacobs himself chose Kim to be the face of his newest collection. A comfy Skims loungewear piece would look right at home next to a Marc Jacobs accessory.

Both brands have set trends on TikTok - a quick search confirms that the viral Skims long slip dress is still a staple, and the Marc Jacobs tote bag is a fan favorite for a city look.

The Fall ‘23 ready-to-wear collection isn't just about the striking combination of black and white - Marc Jacobs is bringing us metallics. (Is anyone else reminded of the Skims metallic swimwear drop in July?) If you’re looking for a stand-out look this season, or if you’re still feeling the Summer Renaissance à la Beyoncé, go for the silver mini bags or the monogram chain link jewelry.

Papers are comparing Kim’s striking look to that of Victoria Beckham’s, who also embraced sleek, dark locks during her days as pop icon Posh Spice. The pair were seen hanging out at the Inter-Miami football game on the 11th, thanks to tickets from soccer club stakeholder David Beckham.

However, the buzz hasn't all been positive. A look at the Instagram comments of the launch tells us that some fans of the designer label aren't pleased to see a Kardashian leading this campaign. The hot take is that a reality TV star shouldn't be the fresh face of a high-end fashion brand. Should Marc Jacobs be keeping up with the Kardashians?

Let’s be real, though - only Kim could pull off the overstated glamor that designer Marc Jacobs wanted for this project. She looks effortlessly gorgeous in the overinflated polka dot puffer jacket, and we should be happy to see it! This isn't the first time the American brand has hosted famous faces - Heaven by Marc Jacobs, the fashion line loved by Gen Z pop stars and models, saw Charli XCX and Doja Cat model just last year.

Just yesterday, Marc Jacobs once again posted on Instagram; an insider peek at Kim’s fitting, where the boots and bags are photoshopped to be incredibly oversized. I love it - high fashion is about bringing what we love wearing to higher levels! If the Kiki boots didn’t give a Bratz doll vibe before, they definitely are now.

It looks like Marc Jacobs has once again put a fun spin on retro favorites. If you’re lucky enough to be dressing in these new items this season, be sure that you’ll be turning heads for all the right reasons.
