Brunch as a concept has been growing in popularity in the past few years, especially in Porto. With numerous great places to choose from, picking the right brunch spot in Porto can be a challenge. We have compiled a list of the 5 very best places for a unique brunch experience to help you out.

Nicolau

If you’re looking for a quick brunch before you go out for the day, or you want a place to work (alone or with others) while grabbing a bite to eat, Nicolau is the place for you. Located smack bang in the middle of downtown Porto, Nicolau offers a simple yet delicious breakfast, with sweet and savoury choices and an array of gluten free and vegan/vegetarian options. Despite its location being in the centre of the city, Nicolau’s calm atmosphere makes it the perfect place for morning brunch alone or with friends.




Terrárea

Imagine, you are on holiday, you go down to the beach for a morning swim and a lie in the sun. The only thing that could make your morning better is a delicious brunch to fill you up. But where to go? The answer is Terrárea. This café florist is located less than a five-minute walk from Matosinhos beach, so it is the perfect place to go after a morning (or afternoon) at the beach. Their all-day brunch menu is entirely vegetarian with numerous gluten free and vegan options (including gluten free and vegan cakes!). As delicious as their food is, the vibe of this café is what really makes it magical. Connected to a florist, Terrárea feels like a garden. Plants surround the interior, combined with the neutral wooden furniture and dried flowers on the tables, this lively café provides brunch alongside nature.




7g Café

7g is first and foremost a coffee shop (that also serves a yummy brunch). With roasting machines working in the background of the café and bags of coffee beans for sale, 7g is dedicated to serving great coffee alongside a variety of sweet and savoury brunch options and treats. Located in Vila Nova de Gaia, near the Doura River, 7g offers a clam escape from the more energetic places in Porto city (which can sometimes feel a bit much). Their brunch menu offers gluten free and vegan options, and they often have a gluten free or vegan treat on offer to have alongside a cup of coffee (with vegan milk options!) Hidden within the cobblestone streets of Gaia, 7g truly feels like a sanctuary for those who love great coffee and great brunch.




Eleven Lab

Eleven Lab is THE place for lovers of food and fashion. Located in downtown Porto, Eleven Lab is a hidden pocket of fantastic style and tasty food. When you walk in you are met with a collection of pop-up shops showcasing innovative fashion designers (both local and international). Upstairs is where the real magic happens. With both indoor and outdoor seating, stylish décor, and aesthetically pleasing menu design, Eleven Lab serves brunch in style. This café offers a range of sweet and savoury brunch options as well as an array of fresh juices (served with edible straws!) and cakes. If you like to eat in style, Eleven Lab is for you!





Mercador Café

Located on the historic street of Rua das Flores, Mercador Café mixes the old with the new at their vibrant downtown brunch place. Their menu changes with seasons as it combines local Portuguese cuisine with modern brunch, offering a range of options from sweet to savoury as well as having gluten free and vegan dishes to choose from. The historic building which holds this café has been restored, keeping the original charm but giving it a modern update, resulting in contemporary look that still holds the beauty of the original building. This same concept follows through into their food. Their simple menu offers brunch classics which feel authentic yet new (and taste very good!). The café’s walls are decked with bottles of wine and handmade and hand painted pottery (that is available to purchase). With friendly service, carefully crafted food, and located in a beautiful building (on a historic street), Mercador café is the perfect brunch place to accompany a day in Porto city.
