On foot it’s around 15 minutes to the nearest beach and a 5 minute complimentary shuttle bus to Speightstown, a quaint little town with a good selection of beachfront bars and restaurants.

The Sugar Cane Club Hotel and Spa has 56 rooms and suites, the design influenced by Mediterranean-style using whitewashed walls and terracotta-roofing. Set amongst the sprawling grounds, the property is split into tiered lawns dotted with mango trees and swings.
The hotel also boasts a variety of its own entertainment and amenities including two open air restaurants: La Salsa Restaurant & Bar and The Chattel Bar, an authentic Barbadian rum shop. There is also an attractive pool area within the resort, where you can choose your favourite spot from the wooden swing chairs and sun loungers, beneath the shade of a tree or by the pool surrounded by inviting sun loungers. The impressive list of facilities and amenities include a fitness centre, and a unique feature in Barbados, a fully equipped squash court.
A super impressive feature about the Sugar Cane Club is that it has a deep and wild jungle gully perched along the edge of the property, which can be explored on your own or on a guided tour. Being in the peaceful hillside gardens overlooking the coast in the horizon, it is perfect for the best of both the coast and countryside. There’s a general sense tranquillity here, thanks in part to the hotel’s adults-only policy.
Our Suite – (no.504)
There are a variety of rooms available at the hotel from one- and two-bedroom suites to the penthouse, with all rooms having a spacious balcony or patios overlooking either the expansive garden or ocean views. These suites are ideal for long stay rentals with comfort and relaxation at the centre of the values here.
We stayed in the Ocean View Suite (no.504), as the name suggests – a spectacular view of the ocean. The sea in this location being recognised for its calmness, creating an ambiance of a hotel with tranquillity at its heart. The décor keeps in with the local culture with traditional patterns and themes throughout the room, matching wood and wicker furniture fills the neutral interior space giving a homey feel. Combined living and dining areas, with flat-screen TVs, flow outside to a private furnished balcony. Our room guaranteed sunset every evening made for an unforgettable view. Our room featured a fully equipped kitchenette style area too where we prepared local mangos and home made rum cocktails.
Our dining experience
Most meals from breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served in the main restaurant which Is the attractive, open-air, fan-cooled, and pillared restaurant above the pool. We recommend sitting by the open-air windows enjoying both the sprawling view of the pool and greenery while taking in the refreshing breeze.
The breakfast buffet is a substantial spread with pastries, pancakes, with a popular omelette station. The breakfast buffet also consists of local Bajan breakfast classics like fried plantain and Bajan bakes.
During our stayed there was a Caribbean barbecue at The Chattel Bar, the rustic dining spot perched above the jungle gully. The buffet offers a generous portion of steak, ribs, pork and fish, appetising salads, and various cakes, pastries, fruit and cheeses for pudding. A steel pan band and singers provided entertainment too.
